Program Note:
The Farmer is a stand-alone piece, painting an evocative ‘day in the life’ of a vocation many New Hampshirites, and indeed New Englanders, hold dear. Gilligan’s depiction playfully combines harmonic, rhythmic and melodic elements as the day begins for the farmer, with an expansive climax as we are reminded of why he is called to this way of life.
