Concertino (2008)

Concertino

Piano Concerto (with chamber orchestra) // 10:00

Program Notes:
This piece was written in partial fulfillment of Heather Gilligan’s Doctor of Music Arts degree in Composition at Boston University.  A piano concerto, it presents an initial melody in the cello and bass, picked up by winds and strings, and finally played by the piano.  The initial melodic material is manipulated and altered throughout the work, landing upon various textures and undulations within a pianistic setting.  This primary material is presented most often in the piano, and with support from the orchestra in the form of changing timbres and registral breadth.
